Carraig Abhainn is Carlow’s first and largest purpose-built student accommodation village, bringing the best of collegiate life to Carlow.

Carlow Town is easily reached via the M9 Dublin-Waterford motorway, approximately one hour’s drive from Dublin’s Red Cow Interchange, and Carlow is only one hour from Waterford city.
From Carlow town, take the Kilkenny Road. You will see the campus of Carlow SETU on your left-hand side. Taking the first left turn after the campus, onto Mortarstown Road and Carraig Abhainn is the second entrance on the right-hand side directly opposite the main gates of Carlow SETU.

Room assignments follow a “first-come, first-served” approach. While we strive to accommodate guests of the same year and gender in each apartment, please note that due to high demand, this arrangement may not always be feasible.
You will share with up to two other students. Each apartment has two single bedrooms, with a shared bathroom, and one ensuite room. Each apartment has a comfortable, well-furnished, shared living room and kitchen. We will do our best to accommodate sharing requests.
We have three apartments with an ensuite bedroom specifically designed for students with reduced mobility. Contact us to discuss your needs.
In the interests of student health and wellbeing, smoking is not permitted inside the apartments, but students may smoke outside the apartments.
No. The rental period is for 40 weeks, including the Easter and Christmas periods, and students are welcome to stay at Carraig Abhainn during holidays, if they wish. This makes Carraig Abhainn particularly suitable for international students requiring accommodation at Carlow SETU.
Each bedroom contains a bed with mattress and mattress cover, wardrobe, bedside locker, chest of drawers, study table and chair for each student. You need only provide duvet, pillows, bedding and towels.
Each apartment contains a television, sofa, armchairs, dining table and chairs. The kitchen contains a cooker, fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle and a range of crockery, cutlery and cookware.
Carraig Abhainn has an office on-site, and office hours are clearly posted. Outside office hours, administration can be contacted in emergencies. Even in less urgent situations, for instance losing keys/locking yourself out of your apartment, you can contact administration during the day and we will endeavour to help as quickly as is reasonable. Lost keys incur a replacement cost of €70 and gate fob replacement cost is €50
There is a laundry room beside the Management office. A key for same will be given to each apartment at the start of the academic year. Tokens for washing and drying can be purchased in the management office
Yes, periodic inspections of the apartments take place, which incentivises all students to do their bit to keep your living space clean and well-maintained. Please note charges will apply for apartments that are not maintained to the required standard. See Student Handbook for further details.
Yes, there is secure private parking in Carraig Abhainn. There is a charge for parking for the year. Please enquire at the Management Office upon arrival for further information.
Overnight visitors are not allowed in Carraig Abhainn.
Carraig Abhainn does not provide contents cover for residents’ personal belongings. You should be able to extend your home insurance, usually at no additional cost, to cover their possessions under the “Items temporarily removed” section of your home insurance.
Bookings for the upcoming academic year will begin 11am – 5th August 2024. Rooms that are available will be bookable from that time only. Bookings will fill up fast, so early viewing is highly recommended.

Yes, an email will be sent when payment has been processed. If payment has been declined, an email will also be sent to verify payment details.
Deposits for new students are collected during signup. Deposits are paid by bank transfer only. Our bank account details will be provided during checkout.
The security deposit is €500 and collected via bank transfer during registration. €400 of the security deposit is refundable, this is subject to final inspection. €100 of the security deposit is non-refundable for admin purposes.
Students who leave early may receive the €400 security deposit back, providing they follow the protocol laid down, including providing one month’s written notice.
Students who leave before 31st March will forfeit their deposit.

Yes. Students will be required to book their room via the website and pay charges due during signup. If any student wishes to pay the full rental amount after securing a room, please contact the management office to discuss payment options.
To cancel your subscription please contact the management office.
Yes, a deposit of €500 is required upon application. Should you be unsuccessful in gaining admittance to Carlow SETU or Carlow College, Carraig Abhainn will refund €400 of the deposit, once you inform us on the day of the first round of CAO offers.

You won’t get any nasty surprises at Carraig Abhainn, as parking, refuse collection, water charges, Wi-Fi connection and all utility bills are included in your rent. Electric storage heating and hot water are included.
At the moment there is no waiting list. Should rooms become available over the course of the year we will update our website accordingly.
